Fuding White Tea: Health for the World
2013-06-28
Fuding white tea is making a powerful rise, backed by its rich historical heritage. As a time-honored green beverage renowned for its health-promoting benefits, tea has become an iconic symbol of Eastern cuisine, captivating drinkers worldwide. Following green tea, black tea, and dark tea, Fuding white tea—celebrated for its saying "one year as tea, three years as medicine, seven years as treasure"—has emerged as a standout contender, emerging as the biggest winner in the 2013 tea market due to its remarkable wellness properties.
Just two years ago, white tea was largely overlooked because of its mild, delicate flavor—but today, it’s fetching prices as high as nearly 10,000 yuan per half-kilogram, with eager buyers scrambling to secure it. But what exactly lies behind this meteoric rise? Legend has it that during Emperor Yao’s reign, measles outbreaks swept through the area around Mount Taomu. A humble farm girl named Lan Gu, living at the foot of the mountain, is said to have discovered the healing power of white tea, using it to help combat the epidemic and restore people’s health.

In the preface to her book *Fuding White Tea*, she writes: "Since ancient times, there have been numerous records documenting white tea's cooling, detoxifying, and therapeutic benefits, particularly in aiding measles patients. Expert Opinion: Fan Zengping: "Fuding White Tea possesses four key characteristics—timelessness, artistry, unique flavor, and medicinal benefits."
"Previously in Taiwan, very few people would drink white tea. They viewed it more as a medicinal remedy rather than a beverage you could enjoy casually. Plus, white tea has an ivory-colored infusion and a cooling nature, so even if you did drink it, you couldn’t consume too much. However, in recent years, the growing popularity of white tea has gradually opened my eyes to its true appeal. The first time I tasted Bai Hao Yin Zhen—a tea renowned for its delicate silver tips—it truly left me awestruck; the leaves took anywhere from 5 to 8 minutes to fully settle at the bottom of the cup after brewing."
After the introduction, Teacher Fan Zengping shared his personal journey with white tea.
"I believe white tea stands out clearly for four distinct features—time…"
