The color and flavor of Fuding white tea
2013-12-17
The "Chinese Tea Classic" describes the color and taste of white tea as follows: Baihao Yinzhen has a pale apricot-yellow liquor with a fresh, crisp, and invigorating flavor; Bai Mudan features an apricot-yellow or orange-yellow infusion, offering a rich yet delicate taste; Gongmei (Shou Mei) boasts an orange-yellow or deep yellow brew, delivering a pure, refreshing, and remarkably vibrant flavor; and the newly crafted white tea exhibits an orange-red liquor, accompanied by a fragrant aroma and a robust, full-bodied taste.
These distinct varieties of white tea indeed differ in both their color and flavor profiles—primarily due to the varying raw materials used, which naturally influence the final characteristics of the brewed tea. Overall, white tea is predominantly characterized by its yellowish hues, while its taste generally leans toward being fresh, mellow, and delightfully smooth.
A few years ago, a tea enthusiast from another region shared with me that he didn’t particularly enjoy white tea, as he found it enjoyable to brew but felt it lacked depth in comparison to other teas.
