Recently, at the 2013 annual meeting of the China Tea People Association, Fuding City was awarded the honorary title of "China's Most Beautiful Ecological Tea Township" by the association. This recognition marks another significant milestone in Fuding's tea industry development, following its earlier distinction as China's Most Charming City for Tea Culture—and it further solidifies the city's reputation as a vibrant, eco-friendly destination.
Fuding is situated along the coast of the East China Sea, at the intersection of Fujian and Zhejiang provinces. Within its borders lie the World Geopark and the national 5A-level scenic area—Mount Taibao—as well as Yushan Island, one of "China's Top Ten Most Beautiful Islands." The city boasts a forest coverage rate of 65%, and its air quality has consistently ranked among the best in Fujian Province. Thanks to its unique geographic and climatic conditions, combined with an exceptionally pristine natural environment, Fuding is perfectly suited for tea cultivation. Here, two renowned tea varieties—the Fuding Dabai Tea and Fuding Dahao Tea—have thrived for generations. These are officially recognized as superior national tea cultivars, designated as Hua Cha No. 1 and Hua Cha No. 2, respectively. Notably, Fuding Dabai Tea serves as the benchmark variety for China’s national tea tree improvement program. As the birthplace of white tea—a distinctive Chinese tea type that ranks among the world’s six major tea categories—Fuding white tea embodies three defining characteristics: its regional uniqueness, naturally crafted production methods, and remarkable health benefits. Renowned for its ability to reduce internal heat, alleviate inflammation, and promote overall wellness while enhancing skin vitality, Fuding white tea has earned global acclaim. Often celebrated with the saying, "White tea from around the world originates in China, and China’s finest white tea comes from Fuding," this tea stands as a timeless testament to nature’s artistry and humanity’s reverence for health and beauty.
In recent years, Fuding City has continuously strengthened foundational work such as building a tea quality and safety system. It has established a comprehensive three-level pesticide residue control network covering the city, townships, and villages, focusing on enhancing construction and management in all stages including planting, production, processing, sales, and quality, aiming to create "ecological tea, healthy tea, and reassuring tea." Especially in response to the stricter pesticide residue controls imposed by Europe and the the United States on tea imports, Fuding has established demonstration tea production bases to promote pollution-free tea gardens comprehensively, ensuring tea quality from the source. So far, the city has promoted 200,000 mu of pollution-free tea gardens and established organic tea bases and green food bases covering 38,000 mu. It is the earliest county-level city in Fujian Province to implement and promote the construction of organic tea gardens and green food bases, and also the largest in terms of promotion area in the province. To improve tea farmers' scientific tea cultivation skills, Fuding invests over one million yuan annually, inviting experts in batches to provide pollution-free cultivation technical training to tea farmers in each township. Meanwhile, tea production guidance stations have been set up in every township, each staffed with 2 to 4 tea technicians to strengthen scientific management of tea gardens and guidance on safe fertilization.
