The "8th China Tea Industry Economic Conference & the 5th National Congress of Members of the China Tea Circulation Association," themed "Quality Safety, Brand Marketing, and Industrial Upgrading," was held on the 18th in Fuding City, Fujian Province—the renowned home of white tea in China.
The annual meeting reviewed and summarized the national tea production and sales activities from 2011 to 2012, and recognized outstanding individuals and organizations by awarding titles such as "Top 10 Economic Figures in China's Tea Industry 2012," "Top 10 E-commerce Enterprises in China's Tea Industry 2012," "Top 10 Eco-Friendly Tea-Producing Counties in China 2012," as well as prestigious awards for leading enterprises and exemplary counties, alongside honors for dedicated workers.
Leaders, experts, and member organizations from national ministries and commissions also provided insights and discussions on current hot topics and key issues in the tea industry, while organizing a visit to Fuding white tea production sites and enterprises.
Fuding is known as the "Home of Chinese White Tea," the "Hometown of China's Famous Teas," and one of China's Top 10 Tea-Producing Counties and Cities. It is also the only pilot unit in Fujian Province selected for the national demonstration project on establishing a product quality traceability system for the agricultural sector. Fuding proudly carries the reputation: "White Tea of the World is in China, and Chinese White Tea is in Fuding." Today, the city boasts 200,000 mu of tea gardens, with its tea industry generating an annual total output value exceeding 1.2 billion RMB. Among these, white tea accounts for an impressive 6,000 tons annually—representing more than 65% of the national output—and contributing a remarkable 466 million RMB to the local economy.
In recent years, Fuding has positioned white tea as a vital industry for people's livelihoods, actively promoting its development through comprehensive initiatives spanning policies, mechanisms, technology, quality control, and branding. Fuding white tea has earned numerous prestigious accolades, including the National Geographical Indication Certification Trademark, Protected Product status, China Famous Trademark, one of China’s Top Ten Teas at the World Expo, and, most notably, the Fuding White Tea Production Technique—recognized by the State Council as a National-level Intangible Cultural Heritage. Once characterized by having a "name but no brand" and gaining fame primarily within local circles while remaining relatively unknown elsewhere, Fuding white tea has now soared to global prominence, captivating tea lovers worldwide and earning admiration across five continents.
Currently, Fuding City is planning and constructing the China White Tea Cultural Industry Park, which will span 5,000 mu of land with a total investment of 3 billion yuan. The park will be divided into five functional zones—tourism & culture, commerce & marketing, production & processing—featuring attractions such as a White Tea Culture Square, a Tea Expo Garden, and a scenic tourist street. Once completed, it will become a world-class, state-of-the-art modern white tea cultural industry hub, catering to both international and domestic markets.
The organizers stated that hosting the "8th China Tea Industry Economic Annual Conference" in Fuding will not only facilitate exchanges between Fuding white tea and various other teas across China, but also leverage the platform of the "China Tea Industry Economic Annual Conference" to comprehensively promote Fuding white tea’s culture and brand. This initiative aims to introduce Fuding white tea—a renowned historical tea—to people nationwide, further enhancing its recognition and reputation.
