"World white tea is in China, and Chinese white tea is in Fuding." To unlock the full brand potential of Fuding’s white tea and ensure its aroma spreads far and wide, Fuding—known as "China’s Home of White Tea"—has recently invested heavily in exploring the health benefits of white tea, strengthening its quality-tracing system, and enhancing its brand identity. These efforts have successfully reversed the previous trend of "flowers blooming within the walls but fragrant beyond," paving the way for the thriving growth of Fuding’s tea industry.
Keyword – Health and Wellness
Research findings from national authoritative scientific institutions such as the National Research Center for Plant Functional Components, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and Zhejiang University reveal that Fuding white tea not only effectively neutralizes excess oxygen free radicals but also significantly boosts the vitality and proliferative capacity of skin cells and brain nerve cells. Additionally, it helps increase the population of beneficial bacteria like Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus in the gut, while simultaneously reducing harmful bacteria such as E. coli, Salmonella, and Staphylococcus aureus. This dual action helps regulate the gut microbiota, ultimately promoting digestive health and overall gastrointestinal well-being. Since 2008, the Fuding Municipal People’s Government, in collaboration with the Municipal Tea Administration, the Municipal Tea Association, and leading local tea enterprises, has commissioned the Department of Tea Science at Zhejiang University to conduct research on the health-promoting bioactive components of Fuding white tea. In recent years, Fuding City has established both the "International Tea Culture Research Association White Tea Research Center" and the "Fuding City China White Tea R&D Center," further strengthening partnerships with provincial and national research institutions and universities, including the China Tea Research Institute, the Food Nutrition and Food Safety Institute of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University. These collaborations are aimed at advancing innovation in white tea production techniques and accelerating the development of cutting-edge technologies for deep-processing tea products, while actively encouraging enterprises to team up with academic and research institutions.
Keyword – Quality Traceability
Fuding City is one of only four national pilot units selected as demonstration zones for building a nationwide traceability system for agricultural product quality in China—alongside Beijing’s Fangshan District, Anji County in Zhejiang Province, and Shaanxi Provincial Agricultural Excellence Center. Supported by the Department of Planting Industry Management under China’s Ministry of Agriculture, the national initiative focuses on piloting comprehensive approaches to production management, quality control, and market oversight across key agricultural sectors—including input management, production record-keeping, product testing, and packaging labeling—starting specifically with vegetables, fruits, and tea products. The project aims to further promote and implement traceability systems that incorporate essential elements such as origin coding, product coding, input management, detailed production records, rigorous base-level product inspections, and standardized packaging labels. In the tea industry, this traceability system will enable full accountability for every step of the tea-making process—from field cultivation all the way to the final cup. Each package of tea produced under this system will be equipped with a unique traceability code, essentially serving as the "ID card" for that particular batch. On the dedicated traceability platform, experts will meticulously collect, enter, and archive data at every stage: from planting and storage to processing and distribution. Ultimately, all this information will converge into a single, comprehensive digital code—a "digital ID" for each tea product. Consumers can then use this code to access detailed insights about the tea’s journey through cultivation, processing, and sales, ensuring transparency and trust throughout the entire supply chain.
Keyword – Brand Building
In recent years, the Fuding Municipal Party Committee and Government have positioned white tea as a vital industry for people’s livelihoods. They’ve strengthened leadership, introduced supportive policies, established robust institutional frameworks, fostered technological innovation, consistently improved quality standards, and actively built a strong brand identity. These efforts have propelled the rapid, healthy, and sustainable growth of Fuding’s tea industry—and particularly its renowned white tea sector. As a result, Fuding white tea has achieved one remarkable milestone after another: it has earned prestigious accolades such as the National Geographical Indication Trademark, a protected product designation, the China Famous Trademark title, and was named among China’s Top Ten Teas at the World Expo. Additionally, the time-honored craftsmanship behind Fuding white tea production has been officially recognized by the State Council as a National-level Intangible Cultural Heritage. From its earlier days—when it was known more for its distinctive name than for a dedicated brand, with its reputation flourishing largely beyond Fuding’s borders—Fuding white tea has now risen to global prominence, earning widespread acclaim far and wide. Currently, Fuding City is actively planning and constructing the China White Tea Culture Industrial Park, spanning an impressive 5,000 mu of land with a total investment of 3 billion yuan. This ambitious project will feature five distinct functional zones, including tourism and culture, trade and marketing, and production and processing. Key highlights will include a White Tea Culture Plaza, a Tea Expo Garden, and a vibrant Tea Tourism Street, all designed to establish Fuding as a world-class, state-of-the-art modern white tea culture hub—both domestically and internationally.
