The "Mid-Autumn Festival & National Day Celebration" Fuding White Tea Folk Tea Competition, hosted by the Fuding City Tea Industry Development Leading Group and co-organized by the Fuding City Tea Bureau and the Tea Association, kicked off yesterday (September 16). A total of 30 tea companies from across the city submitted 80 tea samples for evaluation. The three-day competition features a judging panel composed of three groups: an expert panel, a tea professional group, and a citizen group. The expert panel consists of renowned tea evaluation specialists from Fujian Province, while the tea professional group includes seasoned tea experts and representatives from the tea companies that submitted samples. Meanwhile, the citizen group is made up of white tea enthusiasts, local residents, and tourists from Fuding. The expert panel accounts for 70% of the scoring, the tea professional group for 20%, and the citizen group for the remaining 10%. The competition is divided into two stages: a preliminary round and a final round. All 80 tea samples initially entered the competition, with half of them advancing to the final round after rigorous elimination. "Today, our expert panel will conduct the first round of judging, eliminating 40 out of the 80 samples," explained Lin Lici, President of the Fuding City Tea Association. "The remaining 40 selected samples will then compete over the next two days. Meanwhile, tomorrow and the day after will see tea professionals and citizens taking part in the evaluation process." Lin added that the primary goal of hosting this folk tea competition is to further elevate Fuding's white tea expertise, enhance both the quality and taste of its premium teas, and ultimately drive the comprehensive development of the city’s white tea industry. Notably, the competition features five distinct categories of tea: new-season white teas (including Baihao Yinzhen, Bai Mudan, and Shou Mei), as well as aged white teas (Bai Mudan and Shou Mei). Among these, 17 samples were Baihao Yinzhen, 36 belonged to the new and aged Bai Mudan varieties combined, and 27 represented the new and aged Shou Mei types.
