Recently, reporters learned from Doutou Town in Fuding that, thanks to recent warmer temperatures and abundant rainfall, the first batch of spring white tea from Fuding has begun harvesting—about half a month earlier than last year. Meanwhile, as early-maturing varieties like Zaofengchun and Xiaozaocha are already being picked, new tea varieties across Fuding will soon enter their respective harvesting periods one after another.
According to villagers, spring arrived early this year, and thanks to the abundant rainfall at the end of last year, combined with relatively warm temperatures after the Lunar New Year, conditions were exceptionally favorable for tea bud development. As a result, this year’s spring tea sprouted much earlier than usual, leading to an earlier harvesting period compared to last year. In fact, this early start to the spring tea season is the first time in nearly five to six years. The first batch of freshly picked tea leaves brewed into tea produced a sweet, refreshing beverage of excellent quality.
According to the head of the Doutou Town Tea Station, this year’s spring arrived early, making it the earliest-ever start for open-air tea gardens in our city in recent years. Compared to last year, the first batch of spring tea was harvested 15 days earlier—beginning as early as February 25th, with new spring tea varieties from villages like Bailiu, Wengxi, Dapeng, and Juzhou already entering the picking season. If the weather remains favorable, it’s expected that by the end of this month or early next month, major harvesting of early-blooming spring teas such as Zaofengchun, Xiaozaocha, and Fuyun No. 6 will begin across the town. However, the full-scale harvesting and market launch of Fuding white tea will still take about another 20 days.
