On the 22nd, Ningde City’s Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau announced that the national standard for "Pressed White Tea," drafted and developed by the Fuding City Quality Measurement and Testing Institute, has officially been approved for establishment. The standard is expected to be completed by 2014, ensuring that pressed white tea will finally have a nationwide benchmark to follow. Fuding is one of China’s top ten tea-producing counties/cities, renowned as the "Home of Chinese White Tea" and the "Hometown of Famous Chinese Teas." It is also the birthplace, primary production area, and key export base for China’s white tea. Fuding white tea is celebrated worldwide for its distinctive quality and unique health-promoting, medicinal properties—and its crafting techniques have even been recognized as part of the national-level Intangible Cultural Heritage list. In recent years, the Chinese white tea market has steadily gained momentum, driven in part by white tea’s growing popularity due to its exceptional qualities and versatility in both transportation and storage.

The standard is expected to be finalized in 2014, ensuring that compressed white tea will now have a nationwide benchmark to follow.

　　Fuding is one of China's top ten tea-producing counties (cities), known as the "Home of Chinese White Tea" and the "Hometown of Famous Chinese Teas." It is also the birthplace, primary production area, and key export base for China's white tea. Fuding white tea is celebrated worldwide for its distinctive quality and remarkable health-promoting, medicinal properties, while its time-honored production techniques have been recognized as part of the national-level Intangible Cultural Heritage list.

　　In recent years, the Chinese white tea market has been steadily gaining momentum. Due to white tea's limitations in transportation and storage, many companies have begun experimenting with pressing white tea into compressed forms for sale. This innovative approach enhances the tea's moisture resistance while making it easier to carry, transport, and store—resulting in significant commercial success.

　　A relevant official from the Ningde City Quality Supervision Bureau stated, however, that there is currently no unified national or industry standard for tightly compressed white tea. Moreover, the quality standards set by individual enterprises vary widely, leaving product quality unregulated and without consistent assurance.

　　To ensure uniform standards for compressed white tea, the Fuding City Quality Measurement and Testing Institute spent more than a year completing the drafting and development of the national standard "Compressed White Tea," which has now officially been approved for implementation.
