Hupu Longjing Information Platform, July 28: On July 19, the review meeting for Fujian Province's first provincial-level physical standard—*Physical Standard for Geographical Indication Product: Fuding White Tea*—was held in Fuding City. The standard was developed by the Fuding City Institute of Quality, Metrology and Testing. During the meeting, experts thoroughly discussed and evaluated the physical samples based on sensory criteria, including strip shape, color, uniformity, cleanliness, aroma, taste, liquor color, and leaf appearance. After careful examination of the technical documentation and on-site tasting of the samples, the expert panel unanimously approved the physical standards for two Fuding white tea varieties—Bai Hao Yin Zhen and Bai Mu Dan—in five distinct grades.
In recent years, the lack of unified standards and accompanying physical reference samples for white tea has resulted in inconsistent tea quality, with instances of adulteration and counterfeiting becoming increasingly common. This has undermined the healthy order of the white tea market and hindered the steady growth of the industry. The establishment of a physical standard sample for Fuding white tea will enhance the practicality of grading and quality assessment, playing a crucial role in fostering the sustainable and positive development of Fuding’s white tea sector.
