In recent years, China's tea market has boomed, sparking waves of enthusiasm for varieties like Pu-erh and Tieguanyin. Particularly since 2010, the "red tea craze" has grown stronger with each passing wave. But after red tea gained widespread popularity, many companies have now turned their attention to white tea—the so-called "platinum mine" of the industry.
Starting from 2007, and especially in 2011, Fuding City has been leveraging government support while encouraging businesses to take center stage. As a result, one tea culture festival and tea expo after another have emerged, each sending a powerful message: white tea—known for its unique health benefits and ideal for long-term storage—is the rising star of China’s tea industry.

On March 18, the "China Tea Enterprise Product Brand Value Assessment Team"—comprising the CARD Agricultural Brand Research Center at Zhejiang University, China Tea Magazine, and the China Tea Network of the Tea Research Institute at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences—unveiled the inaugural "2011 China Tea Enterprise Product Brand Value Ranking." Among the winners, eight tea brands from Fuding City were honored as part of the prestigious "Top 100 Chinese Tea Enterprise Product Brands in 2011."
★On April 11, at the 2011 China Tea Convention, the "China Tea Regional Public Brand Value Assessment Team"—a collaboration between Zhejiang University's CARD Agricultural Brand Research Center, China Tea Magazine, and the Tea Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, along with ChinaTea.com—announced the "2011 China Tea Regional Public Brand Value." The Fuding White Tea brand was valued at 2.445 billion yuan, ranking fifth among the top ten regional tea brands nationwide.
★On October 12, during the opening ceremony of the 7th China Tea Industry Economic Annual Conference, the China Tea Circulation Association announced and awarded plaques to the "Top 100 Chinese Tea Enterprises of 2011." Among them, eight tea companies from Fuding City were recognized as "2011 Top 100 Chinese Tea Enterprises."

On March 16, Fuding City held the launch ceremony for the establishment of its 2011 Tea Quality Traceability System. Li Lianhai, Director of the Office at the Ministry of Agriculture’s Center for High-Quality Agricultural Products, and other distinguished guests attended the event. Fuding City is the only county-level city in Fujian Province piloting the implementation of a tea product quality traceability system, having first joined the national efforts to build a traceability system for agricultural product quality and safety—as well as participate in the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) pilot program—back in 2007.
★On November 1, the provincial-level local standard review meeting for the physical sample of "Fuding White Tea," a Geographical Indication Product, was held in Fuding, where the physical sample of Fuding White Tea successfully passed the evaluation. According to reports, the review meeting was organized by the White Tea Working Group of the National Technical Committee for Tea Standardization.
★ At the start of last year’s spring tea production, a tea quality and safety supervision sampling team—comprising representatives from Fuding City’s Tea Bureau, Quality Supervision Bureau, and Tea Association—organized personnel to conduct random inspections of tea-processing enterprises in more than 10 key tea-producing townships, including Diandou, Bailin, and Guanyang. Over 100 batches were sampled, and all passed rigorous testing conducted by higher-level authorities.
★In July, Fuding City was designated by the Fujian Provincial Department of Finance and the Department of Agriculture as a county-level city to implement the national-level Modern Tea Production Development Fund Project. As a result, 4.8 million yuan from the central government’s Modern Tea Production Development Fund will be allocated to Fuding City, supporting our city’s initiatives to develop efficient, safe, and eco-friendly tea gardens, as well as projects aimed at upgrading and modernizing the primary processing of tea through cleaner production methods.

On April 6, a seminar on the health benefits of tea and its role in public welfare was held in Beijing, the capital city. Experts from China’s tea industry gathered to delve into tea’s potential as a defense against radiation. Fuding white tea, renowned for its distinctive quality, received high praise from the attendees. Dr. Wang Yuefei, Deputy Director of the Tea Science Department at Zhejiang University, highlighted during the event that the primary compound responsible for tea’s radiation-resistant properties is catechin—a type of polyphenol. On April 19, at the auction held during the Shanghai Yuyuan International Tea Culture and Art Festival, a middle-aged "tea enthusiast" successfully bid 188,000 yuan for an aged white tea cake, shedding further light on Fuding white tea's unique health benefits—often described as "tea in its first year, medicine after three." The 20-year-old Fuding white tea cake, weighing exactly 375 grams, had an initial bidding price of 138,000 yuan.
★From May 20 to 23, the 5th China West International Tea Culture Expo, jointly hosted by the China International Tea Culture Research Association, the Xi'an Municipal Bureau of Commerce, and other organizations, was held at the Shaanxi (Xi'an) International Exhibition Center. ★On December 10, the "Fujian Tea Across China" initiative held its launch ceremony at the Great Hall of the People. ★On May 23, the State Council announced the third batch of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List, officially designated by the Ministry of Culture. "Fuding White Tea," as the sole representative of Traditional Craftsmanship Category 8—White Tea Production Techniques—was proudly included in the national-level Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
★On September 16, the third "Fuding White Tea Cup" Cross-Strait Tea Art TV Open Competition successfully concluded in Fuding. Organized by the Fujian Provincial Department of Agriculture, the Cross-Strait Tea Industry Exchange Association, and Fujian Provincial Radio & Television Group, and hosted by the Fuding Municipal People's Government and Fujian TV Comprehensive Channel, the event drew over 3,000 contestants from both sides of the Taiwan Strait and spanned more than three months.
★On September 19, the Fuding White Tea Culture Promotion Center and Pinpinxiang Tea Industry's Xiamen flagship store held their official launch ceremony. Following this, white tea culture centers were officially established in Fuzhou, Chongqing, Beijing, and Guangzhou, creating a nationwide promotional network centered around key tea-trading cities to spread the essence of white tea culture.
★On March 28, the second Fuding Tea Festival was held in Diandou Town, organized by the Provincial Poverty Alleviation and Development Association, the Fuding Municipal Government, and the Mindong Daily. The event also featured an awards ceremony for the winners of the essay contest titled "Talking about White Tea: Strengthening Villages and Enriching People." On September 29, the book *Talking about White Tea: Strengthening Villages and Enriching People*, published by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was officially launched at a grand ceremony held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Fuzhou.
★From November 25 to 27, the 5th Cross-Strait Tea Expo and Wuyishan Tea Festival, jointly hosted by the Fujian Provincial People's Government, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, the Ministry of Agriculture, the State Administration for Market Regulation, and the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, was grandly held in Wuyishan City. Fuding City showcased 13 tea enterprises, occupying 18 exhibition booths with a total area exceeding 200 square meters—making this year’s expo the largest-ever display space for our city at the Cross-Strait Tea Expos.
