What exactly is white tea? Most people aren’t very familiar with it. Many mistakenly believe that Anji white tea is the same as white tea, but that’s actually not the case. White tea refers, first, to tea made exclusively from the fresh leaves of the white tea plant; and second, to tea crafted from ordinary tea plant leaves through natural withering, slight fermentation, and air-drying—what’s known as fermented white tea. Unlike other teas, this type undergoes no rolling or pan-firing—it’s simply dried naturally under the sun, earning it the nickname "sun-dried tea."

The most distinctive feature of white tea is its silvery-white downy appearance. The main varieties of white tea include Silver Needle, White Peony, Gong Mei, and Shou Mei, among others.

So, what are the benefits of white tea? In addition to the nutrients naturally found in other types of tea, white tea also contains essential active enzymes that the human body needs. Regularly drinking white tea can significantly boost lipase activity within the body, enhancing fat breakdown and metabolism. It effectively helps regulate insulin secretion, slows down intestinal absorption of glucose, breaks down excess sugar in the bloodstream, and promotes balanced blood sugar levels.

White tea is rich in various amino acids and has a cooling, natural property, making it effective for reducing fever, relieving summer heat, and detoxifying the body. In the production area, enjoying a cup of Bai Mudan tea during summer rarely leads to heatstroke, which is why Bai Mudan is one of the essential white teas that local tea farmers rely on throughout the warmer months.

The longer white tea is stored, the higher its medicinal value becomes. White tea also contains provitamin A, which, once absorbed by the body, quickly converts into vitamin A—helping to prevent night blindness. Additionally, white tea includes compounds that offer radiation protection, providing significant shielding for the body’s hematopoietic functions. This makes it particularly effective in mitigating the harmful effects of TV radiation. Therefore, sipping more white tea while watching television is not only harmless but highly beneficial—especially recommended for children and teenagers, as white tea’s properties can help safeguard their eyesight and promote overall health!
