Cerebrovascular disease is a relatively common condition with a high incidence rate, significantly impacting human health. If left untreated promptly, it can lead to "hemiplegia." Cerebrovascular diseases include conditions such as cerebral embolism, cerebral thrombosis, and cerebral hemorrhage. The primary causes stem from a state of hypercoagulability in the body's blood, where red blood cells clump together and blood flow slows down, ultimately forming clots. Alternatively, this can result from increased fragility of the blood vessel walls, which, when triggered by adverse external factors, may cause the vessels to rupture and lead to bleeding.
Cerebrovascular diseases are preventable. In recent years, extensive clinical research has demonstrated that long-term tea consumption can reduce the risk of developing these conditions. But why exactly does white tea offer protection against cerebrovascular diseases? A renowned professor from Zhejiang Medical University explains: "Pathological changes associated with thrombus formation are now linked to the underlying mechanisms of numerous human illnesses. A hypercoagulable state is a critical factor in blood clot development, and correcting abnormal blood-coagulation processes—by identifying effective anticoagulant and thrombolytic agents—could open up new avenues for both maintaining health and advancing clinical treatments. Notably, white tea possesses natural anticoagulant properties and enhances fibrinolysis, helping to reverse the hypercoagulable state. Importantly, unlike conventional anticoagulant drugs, white tea carries no significant side effects, making it an excellent choice for promoting overall wellness and preventing disease."
A certain Traditional Chinese Medicine research institute conducted studies on teas—including white tea, oolong tea, and Fujian green tea—and confirmed that tea can effectively reduce blood viscosity. After consuming white tea for 2 to 3 weeks, whole blood viscosity dropped from 4.77 to 4.31 (P < 0.01); plasma viscosity decreased from 1.66 to 1.58 (P < 0.01); and whole blood reduced viscosity fell from 8.58 to 7.97 (P < 0.01). These comprehensive reductions in all three measures of blood viscosity clearly demonstrate that white tea helps lower blood viscosity, mitigate hypercoagulability, enhance blood flow, improve circulation, and even prevent thrombus formation. Additionally, white tea inhibits red blood cell aggregation. Normally, red blood cells remain dispersed in the bloodstream due to the negatively charged surfaces of their membranes. However, when membrane charges diminish, the repulsive forces between blood cells weaken, leading to increased aggregation. Remarkably, after consuming white tea, the negative charge on red blood cells significantly increases, thereby reducing their tendency to clump together. This dispersion of previously aggregated red blood cells not only helps lower blood viscosity but also plays a crucial role in preventing blood clot formation.
Generally, cerebral hemorrhage is often associated with reduced capillary resistance, arteriosclerosis, and hypertension. In a study involving 35 patients with cerebrovascular diseases, most showed varying degrees of improvement in capillary fragility after consuming tea—specifically, their capillary permeability decreased, while their resistance increased. White tea has been found to reduce capillary fragility and enhance resistance, thereby helping to minimize bleeding risks. This makes it potentially beneficial for the prevention and management of conditions like cerebral hemorrhage.
Research has shown that drinking white tea (along with other types of tea) can improve blood circulation, reduce blood clotting, and enhance fibrinolysis—processes that help prevent the formation of cerebral thrombi and minimize the risk of cerebral hemorrhage. Therefore, it’s highly recommended that middle-aged and elderly individuals make a habit of regularly enjoying tea, prioritizing white tea, green tea (such as jasmine tea), and oolong tea. Not only does this practice strengthen the body and promote longevity, but it also serves as an effective preventive measure against cerebrovascular diseases. Why wouldn’t you embrace such a healthy and beneficial lifestyle?
