Fuding white tea boasts various health benefits, including blood sugar reduction, lipid-lowering effects, and immune-boosting properties.
Commissioned by the Fuding Municipal Government, Researcher Han Chi and his team from the Institute of Nutrition and Food Safety at the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention have been diligently studying the health benefits of Fuding white tea since 2009. Their findings reveal that Fuding white tea offers a range of wellness effects, including helping to lower blood sugar, reduce blood lipids, and boost immune function.
Researcher Han Chi and his team first conducted studies using animals. They randomly divided 6- to 8-week-old female BALB/c mice into four groups based on body weight: a control group (water-only control), a Bai Hao Yin Zhen white tea group, a Bai Mu Dan white tea group, and a new-process white tea group. Each day, 20 grams of each of the three white teas were separately measured, added to 1000 ml of boiling water, and steeped for 30 minutes. After allowing the mixture to cool to room temperature, the animals were given free access to the tea beverages. Meanwhile, the control group received only cooled boiled water. The entire experiment lasted for 40 days. The results showed that, compared to the control group, the white tea-treated animals exhibited significantly higher levels of white blood cell counts and their differential distribution, as well as elevated total protein and albumin concentrations. Additionally, the white tea groups demonstrated enhanced lymphocyte subpopulations, improved lymphocyte proliferation capacity, and increased plasma immunoglobulin levels—specifically IgA, IgG, and IgM—as well as higher serum cytokine levels, particularly tumor necrosis factor. These findings clearly indicate that white tea has a notable immune-boosting effect. Building on these animal studies, the researchers further conducted human intervention trials and discovered that white tea also offers impressive health benefits, including effective support in lowering blood glucose and reducing lipid levels, among other wellness-promoting effects.
It is understood that Fuding white tea's unique production process maximizes the preservation of the tea leaves' nutritional components. Compared to other types of tea, white tea is particularly rich in compounds such as tea polysaccharides, flavonoids, and theanine, offering a wide range of health-promoting benefits.
