In Songtao Autonomous County, the per capita net income from tea in Mangmushan Village reached 21,000 yuan.
"March brings joyful tea-picking, as the fragrant aroma of tea wafts through Cotton Mountain; the more tea is picked, the happier the workers become, reveling in the refreshing, invigorating scent that fills Pu Jue." On May 7, a reporter visited the tea plantation in Mianhua Shan Village, Pu Jue Town, Songtao Autonomous County, and was immediately greeted by waves of delightful tea fragrance.
Pu Jue Town's Mianhua Mountain Village is renowned as the "Home of Tea," with tea cultivation now serving as the village's flagship industry. For years, the village's "two committees" have steadfastly focused on the tea sector, steadily expanding and strengthening this vital industry—and in doing so, they've opened up entirely new opportunities in the tea market.
The village comprises 14 villagers' groups, with a total of 337 households and 1,723 residents. Leveraging the region's abundant acidic soil resources, the village has successfully expanded its tea cultivation to 5,600 mu, of which 3,000 mu are currently ready for harvesting. The village is home to three tea-processing facilities, producing 600,000 kilograms of tea annually and generating sales revenue of 31 million yuan. On average, each resident harvests 346.22 kg of tea per year, translating into an annual per capita net income of 21,000 yuan from tea production—making this the village renowned far and wide as the leading tea-producing community in the area.
Village Party Secretary Liang Mingxiang led the reporters to the highest point of the tea garden, where amidst the sea of tea leaves, tea-picking girls held small winnowing baskets in their left hands and formed their right fingers into a crane-beak shape, gently plucking the tender bud tips.
To strengthen the tea industry, Mangmshan Village has successively introduced high-quality tea varieties such as "Fuding Dabai Tea," "Longjing 43," "Biluochun," "Maofeng," and "Zhe Long 117." The village is steadily advancing its strategy for industrializing, scaling up, and branding tea production, while meticulously establishing high-standard tea gardens and implementing large-scale management practices centered around renowned brands like "Miaojia Foguang Tea," "Jingshan Cuinya," "Songtao Cuinya," and "Songtao Chunhao."
Liu Sidong, a major tea-processing entrepreneur, revealed to reporters: "Last year, I contracted 150 acres of tea gardens and earned 300,000 yuan. This year, just from harvesting spring tea, I’ve already paid out over 500,000 yuan for the fresh tea leaves. Gao Jinyun, a resident of Laowuji Group, is a renowned expert at picking tea leaves, earning a substantial income—up to 300 yuan per day solely from tea-picking activities."
Today, the average per capita tea garden area in the village has reached 3.2 mu, creating a picturesque landscape where "the mountains are covered with forests, the mid-slopes boast tea gardens, and the foothills feature fertile farmland." More than just a source of income, the tea gardens have become the villagers' green "bank"—and now they also serve as a stunning backdrop to the idyllic countryside scenery.
