Hupu Longjing Information Platform, August 26: It’s the same Mid-Autumn Festival, but different mooncakes! As living standards continue to rise, consumers are increasingly gravitating toward healthier food options. Even traditional Chinese mooncakes—once synonymous with high sugar and fat content—are undergoing a transformation, shedding their old image in favor of a modern, health-conscious, low-sugar trend. As a result, white tea-infused mooncakes, known for their wellness benefits, are rapidly gaining popularity, capturing the enthusiastic attention of both consumers and retailers—and enjoying strong market demand.
Although there are still more than 20 days until the Mid-Autumn Festival, the author recently spotted a wide variety of beautifully packaged white tea mooncakes already on shelves for sale at Tianfengyuan Tea Industry Co., Ltd.'s one-stop procurement center in Diandou Town—effectively staking a foothold in the upcoming Mid-Autumn market. In the dedicated white tea mooncake section, you’ll find elegant offerings like "Seven Stars Cradling the Moon," "Reunion Tribute Cake," and "Great Reunion," each showcasing intricate designs that celebrate China’s rich cultural heritage. The packaging vividly captures the essence of the "moon," perfectly complementing the delicate flavors of these exquisite white tea treats.
Relevant personnel from the procurement center told the reporter that their sales and exhibition center currently offers more than 10 varieties of white tea mooncakes, including aged white tea cakes, Bai Mudan tea cakes, and newly crafted white tea mooncakes. Prices range from 180 to 800 yuan per box. Customers continuously visit to customize or purchase these unique white tea mooncakes. This year, sales of "Fuding White Tea" tea cakes have seen a significant surge, with over 100 sizable, bulk orders already completed as of now. For instance, a tea merchant from Beijing placed a single order for more than 2,000 boxes of white tea mooncakes. Additionally, dozens of other orders—totaling over 10,000 boxes—have been received from tea traders in Beijing, Liaoning, Shandong, Guangdong, and other regions. Meanwhile, Tianfengyuan Tea Industry Co., Ltd. has witnessed its white tea mooncake sales soar by approximately 200% compared to the same period last year.
It is understood that in the past, leading tea companies in Diandou Town—such as Tianfengyuan, Ruida, Fangming, and Wuyao—primarily focused on selling tea leaves. However, today many of these companies are shifting toward diversified business strategies. Beyond traditional products like dried tea, teaware, tea pillows, tea snacks, and tea beverages, they’re now capitalizing on opportunities presented by major seasonal festivals to create innovative tea-related offerings that appeal to consumers and help expand their market reach. The Mid-Autumn Festival, after all, is an ideal time for strengthening family and friend bonds and deepening emotional connections—a holiday second only to the Spring Festival in terms of gift-giving significance throughout the year. As people become increasingly health-conscious, while mooncakes remain a cherished part of the festival, their sweetness and richness often make them less appealing to those seeking a lighter, guilt-free indulgence. That’s why, with the growing popularity of "healthier" mooncake options, more tea companies in Diandou Town have seized this golden opportunity during the Mid-Autumn Festival. They’ve cleverly forged partnerships with mooncakes, launching beautifully crafted gift boxes or compressed tea products that complement the festive spirit. As a result, these tea-based offerings have quickly become one of the must-buy items for families and friends during the festival—right up there with mooncakes themselves.
