Zhengshan Xiaozhong black tea is the ancestor of all black teas worldwide. Also known as Lapsang Souchong, this Chinese-produced black tea is crafted by smoking the leaves with pine needles or pine wood, giving it an exceptionally robust and aromatic flavor. Due to the smoking process, the leaves turn a distinctive black color, while the brewed tea boasts a deep reddish hue. Zhengshan Xiaozhong originates from Wuyishan City in Fujian Province and is protected under the "Protected Geographical Indication" system. As one of the oldest varieties of black tea, Zhengshan Xiaozhong later served as the foundation for the development of Gongfu black tea.
